PROGRAMMING UPDATE: NAT GEO'S SYDNEY SUISSA AND INSIDE NATURE'S GIANTS

The Congress is delighted to welcome Sydney Suissa to Melbourne in 2009. As the Executive Vice President, Content for National Geographic Channels International, Sydney Suissa is in a unique position to monitor the output of innovative and exceptional science and history television programming from all over the world. He will present the session Sydney's View from Melbourne, which will include his pick of the programs from this year that he believes are either pushing the genre creatively or technically, or are just simply outstanding.

Atop Sydney's list is one of the most audacious series of the year, Inside Nature's Giants, which dissects the largest animals on the planet to uncover their evolutionary secrets. A co-production of Channel 4 and National Geographic, with additional support from The Wellcome Trust, Inside Nature's Giants is the brainchild of producer David Dugan of Windfall Films, who will be in Melbourne to present the story behind the making of the series.

WCSFP LAUNCH EVENTS IN SYDNEY AND MELBOURNE

With this year's Congress now less than three months away, organizers will be participating in two launch events next week in Sydney and Melbourne:

Sydney Launch Event
Monday, September 7
5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Join Host Broadcaster ABC and Industry Development Partner Screen Australia as they welcome representatives of this year's WSCFP for a launch reception and information session. If you are in Sydney and would like to attend, please contact imo at wcsfp.com.

Melbourne Launch Event
Wednesday, September 9
5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Film Victoria, 2009 WCSFP Principal Partner, is pleased to be hosting a networking event to bring together Victorian factual producers, broadcasters and members of the scientific community to exchange ideas and encourage development in readiness for the Congress' December event. To attend, please contact jennifer.elmer at film.vic.gov.au by Friday, September 4.

PROGRAMMING UPDATE: SPEED DATING

Returning to this year's Congress, the ever-popular networking event Speed Dating is a great way for independent producers to have a one-on-one chat with commissioners that they wouldn't otherwise have easy access to. Attending producers will once again be asked to submit projects for advanced consideration, and CEs will choose to meet with those producers whose projects are of interest to them. The twist: CEs won't know who or where the project came from until they meet the producer face-to-face! Details on how to sign-up for Speed Dating will be announced in an upcoming eBulletin.

CONGRESS PLUS ONE

Bring a spouse or partner to Melbourne without having to worry that she or he will miss out on all of the excitement. New this year, WCSFP organizers are delighted to offer the Evening Social Events Guest Pass. Bring a guest to all of the private evening social events, including a welcome cocktail, sit-down dinner and reception, and various parties. For more information, visit www.wcsfp.com <http://wcsfp.com/index.php/2009/social_events/> .

RENEGADE FILMS JOINS CONGRESS AS A SILVER SPONSOR

The WCSFP welcomes Australia's Renegade Films as a Silver Sponsor of this year's Congress. An award-winning television production company based in Prahran, Victoria, Renegade Films has recently launched Renegade Factual, a new division dedicated to the development, production and delivery of factual TV and documentaries.

For more information on WCSFP sponsorship opportunities, contact Jennifer Hobbs <mailto:jhobbs at hotdocs.ca> .

The World Congress of Science and Factual Producers (WCSFP) is a member-run, not-for-profit organization, dedicated to celebrating the best in science, history and other factual programming. With a remarkable 2-to-1 producer-to-broadcaster attendance ratio, exceptional networking events and opportunities, and dynamic sessions produced by leading industry insiders, the Congress' annual event has become a must-attend gathering for producers, broadcasters and distributors working in factual television. Most recently held in Florence, Italy (2008), New York, USA (2007), Manchester, UK (2006), and Tokyo, Japan (2005), the WCSFP will be held, this year, from December 1 - 4 in Melbourne, Australia.
