Coastal Estuaries and chambers of secrets
For immediate release 15 November 2003
A team of scientists will converge on the Shoalhaven district in NSW this
week to investigate nitrogen cycling in St Georges Basin. The study is part
of Geoscience Australia's national focus investigating nutrient cycling in
estuaries around the country.

The study aims to determine how nutrients are cycled in the estuary, which
can ultimately help in local and national water quality management.

Media are invited to attend an event on the shores of St Georges Basin to
discuss the study with Geoscience Australia scientists, local environment
managers and community members.

When: 10am Tuesday 18 November 2003

turn off the Princes Highway into Jervis Bay Road and then right at the

important to know their concentrations in a coastal environment.

*	Media will be provided with a list of spokespeople available for
interview, plus a CD containing satellite imagery of the St Georges Basin and

*	Scientists will demonstrate how they will use water-monitoring
chambers in the study and how they help in water-quality management.
