Free trade opportunities for regional Australia

*	A rare opportunity for regional NSW to hear first hand the
Australian Government's views on recent free trade agreements with
Thailand, Singapore and the US and the World Trade Organisation (WTO)
negotiations in Mexico is available in the final Charles Sturt
University (CSU) public lecture for 2003. Former Ambassador and current
Director of the NSW State Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs
and Trade, Philip Green will discuss the Government's perspective on
these issues and where the opportunities lie for rural and regional
Australia during the public lecture on Tuesday 25 November in Wagga
Wagga, NSW. The lecture, jointly presented by CSU and Wagga Wagga City
Council, will be held at 6pm in the Council Meeting Room, Civic Centre,
Baylis St, Wagga Wagga.

The experiences of irrigators

*	An international survey examining the experience of the
irrigation sector with pressurised irrigation is being conducted by
Charles Sturt University (CSU) postgraduate student Hugh Campbell. From
CSU School of Agriculture in Wagga Wagga, NSW, Mr Campbell is
researching the water use efficiency of high frequency irrigation and
fertigation. "The high frequency method requires a lot of technological
equipment and I hope the survey will identify the reliability problems
of this equipment and possibly lead to improvements in their design and
use to make the technology more acceptable to irrigators," said Mr
Campbell. The survey is available on the Internet at

Media note: Please contact the Media Office for interviews. Hugh
Campbell is conducting research in the Stone Barn Vineyard near the
Magpies Nest Restaurant, Wagga Wagga, NSW.
