Science, Engineering and Technology in Action:
KIDS EXPERIENCE BUILD IT THESE HOLIDAYS
Dressed in safety vests and hard hats and equipped with tool belts, kids can participate in Build It! - a free holiday activity being held in the Rocks, Sydney, where children aged two to 12 are invited to experience the process of home construction - wiring up the lights and power sockets; putting in place the plumbing from the water tanks to the bathroom and kitchen taps; and bricking up the outside walls.
An initiative of Children's Discovery Museum Limited and supported by AVJennings, TAFE NSW, SHFA, Energetics and MadLab Australia, Build It! uses child-safe materials to simulate real building products so that children can co-operatively design, plan and construct a residential home.
Doreen Clark, Director of Children's Discovery Museum Limited said Build It! would be a fantastic opportunity for kids to get out of their lounge room during school holidays and actively participate in something that is both educational and fun.
"Build It! is a great opportunity for children to learn about the construction process while developing their use of logic, co-operation, design and planning skills and of course, all the while, having fun," she said.
"It's really exciting, our sponsors including AVJennings and the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority have helped provide all sorts of child-friendly materials to use - hard hats, wheelbarrows, light switches, taps, carpet squares, floor tiles, simulated bricks and water piping, so the kids will really be able to experience the construction process and really get their hands dirty."

WHERE: Loft Markets, Argyle Street, The Rocks, Sydney.
