Hi folks -

Some of you may remember that in 2000 the NSW branch of the ASC ran "Science
in the Pub goes outback", which sent a bunch of scientists and science
communicators to far-flung communities in Queensland and NSW by DC-3
aircraft
(http://www.scienceinthepub.com/archive/2000/outback_mediarelease.html). On
board were astronomers Fred Watson and David Malin and composer Ross
Edwards. Together they presented "Starry Starry Night", a performance that
mingled David and Fred's commentary on the sky with Ross's music.

The experience triggered the trio to collaborate on another work: Ross
Edward's fourth symphony, 'Star Chant'. This premiered at the Adelaide
Festival in 2002 and is receiving its first Sydney performances this week
(Thursday and Friday), as part of the Sydney Festival. If you'd like to know
more, see http://www.aao.gov.au/press/starchant.html .

cheers

Helen
