BAKER TO RETIRE AS GRDC WESTERN PANEL CHAIRMAN
Hyden graingrower, Dale Baker will retire as Chairman of the Grains Research
and Development Corporation (GRDC) Western Region Panel at the end of
GRDC Board Chairman and Mt Barker grower, Terry Enright thanked Mr Baker for
his substantial input as a panel member for 11 years and as panel Chairman
since 1999 and announced that Kojonup grower and panel member, Neil Young
will succeed him.
"Dale has always represented the R&D aspirations of WA growers rigorously
and professionally, while helping also direct GRDC investments to areas
where WA growers would gain the maximum benefit and return on their levies,"
Mr Enright said.
"Beyond his local role overseeing GRDC's approximate $20 million annual
investment in the western region, Dale was also an important member of the
National Panel where he had direct input to the Board, helping my fellow
directors and executive management strategically invest, for the benefit of
growers across the nation, $100 million or so a year."
Mr Baker, via the GRDC, has had various other roles, including directorships
of the Weeds CRC and WA Herbicide Resistance Initiative. He is currently
Chairman of the Managing Climate Variability Program.
Mr Enright said Mr Baker had also made substantial input to wheat quality
"Wheat quality is one of Dale's driving passions and while wheat remains our
biggest crop, it will remain front and centre for GRDC's attention and
quality is what counts when it comes to marketing wheat and wheat products."
Mr Baker said it had been a challenging, but rewarding experience
representing WA growers for 11 years and a privilege to have worked with so
many committed and talented panel members.
>From the New Year he intends spending more time with his family, wife Karin
and children Daniel and Philippa.
