WANTED: WA NUFFIELD SCHOLARS: GRDC is offering three scholarships of $25,000
each to Australian graingrowers through the Nuffield Australia Farming
Scholars program and at least one scholarship is destined for a WA


Applicants must be Australian citizens aged 28 to 40, actively engaged in
grain production and intending to remain involved in primary production in


Neil Young, Chair of the GRDC Western Region Panel, urged those involved in
the WA grains industry to apply.


"With WA's grain industry so export oriented, it benefits the industry and
individuals when scholars broaden the boundaries of their knowledge and
experience through the Global Focus Program and share what they find with
the industry," Mr Young said.


WA GRDC-supported Nuffield Scholars of 2007 were Mark Graham of Popanyinning
and Simon Tiller of Esperance.


Mr Graham studied the opportunities and risks for Australian agriculture in
the changing energy market, with a focus on broadacre farming and Mr Tiller
investigated farming systems that add value to, or recycle, many or all of
their products and byproducts.


Applications for 2008 scholarships close on June 30, with finalists
interviewed in September and winners announced in October. Application forms
