UPDATING AGRIBUSINESS: Neil Young, Kojonup grower and Grains Research and
Development Corporation (GRDC) Western Region Panel Chair, has praised the
relevance and standard of presentations at the 2009 WA Agribusiness Crop

He said they provided an outstanding forum for researchers and other
agribusiness professionals to network, share research highlights and discuss
emerging research and development issues relevant to grain growers.

Opening day two at Burswood, John Harvey, GRDC Executive Manager, Varieties,
presented the GRDC perspective on the exciting topic of the potential
introduction of glyphosate tolerant lupins in WA.

"This is particularly topical now that the moratorium on GM canola crops has
been eased here and there will be 1000 hectares of GM canola sown by 20
growers this year," Mr Young said.

Another priority topic is carbon and GRDC Western Panel member, Dr Fran
Hoyle of DAFWA, presented on soil organic carbon and how to retain or
enhance it.

"This was complemented by a panel discussion on the Federal Government's
proposed carbon pollution reduction scheme," Mr Young said.

About 300 delegates attended the Updates, organised annually by DAFWA with
GRDC support.
