CANOLA CASE STUDIES: With 1000 hectares of genetically modified (GM) canola
to be trialled across 50 farms in WA this season, release of the Grains
Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) and Australian Oilseeds
Federation booklet, 'GM Canola - Performance and Experiences in 2008', is
particularly timely.

It presents 13 grower case studies, four trials and an independent Better
Canola demonstration of Roundup Ready canola in its first year in Victoria
and NSW after state-based moratoria were lifted.

One of the main reasons growers planted Roundup Ready canola was to have
better weed management options.

The GRDC's Dr Andreas Betzner described GM herbicide resistant canola as
"another tool in the toolbox" for many growers.

"Those who have grown it seem to be generally happy with the technology, so
it's not surprising an increase in the area planted to GM herbicide
resistant canola across Victoria and NSW is expected this year," he said.

Copies of the booklet are available from www.australianoilseeds.com or
ground-cover-direct at canprint.com.au or free phone 1800 11 00 44.
