Subject: WA event: FREE school technician chemistry PD Nov 8

Invitation to all Science Technicians in WA Government and Independent Schools:

ECU will be hosting Mr. Tim Harrison, Bristol ChemLabS Teacher Fellow and Science Communicator in Residence at Bristol University in the UK, for a few days in early November. During his brief stay, Mr. Harrison has agreed to run a free chemistry PD session for school laboratory technicians and this is an open invitation to register.
Date: Monday November 8, 2010
Time: 10am-12noon (possible repeat 2-4pm)
Venue: Edith Cowan University's Joondalup campus, room to be advised
Topic: Chemistry demonstrations, promotion and engagement
Lunch and science resources will be provided.
Numbers are strictly limited so please e-mail n.bordas at ecu.edu.au<mailto:n.bordas at ecu.edu.au> ASAP to book your place. Registrations close 5pm Monday November 1.
If there is sufficient interest there may be a repeat session the same afternoon.

This is a great opportunity to meet an international science communicator, experience some useful chemistry demonstrations, network with other school technicians from both Government and Independent schools, and see our ECU chemistry facilities.

Mr. Harrison has UK university qualifications in both chemistry and education; he is on several committees within the Royal Society of Chemistry and is an associate editor for Chemistry Review magazine. He has taught chemistry at schools in England and Australia, trained science demonstrators in South Africa and has a major interest in promoting chemistry to high school students in particular. This year Mr. Harrison was the inaugural recipient of the Royal Society's Hawkesbee Award 'UK Science Teacher of the Year'.
Bristol ChemLabS is the UK's only Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning for chemistry, and won the UK's only ever 'Big Tick Award' for public engagement with business in 2009.

In science,
Nardia Bordas.
