Australia's Groundwater Future

The nation’s top groundwater experts gather in Canberra on Monday for the first national summit on threats, opportunities and policy solutions for one of our most vital resources.

Groundwater 2010 - The Challenge of Sustainable Management will be held at the National Convention Centre in Canberra from October 31 to November 4, 2010. 

Organised by the Geological Society of Australia (GSA) in conjunction with the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH), conference highlights include:
•	The World Bank’s Stephen Foster, on the plight of groundwater worldwide and the quest for sustainable use
•	The National Groundwater Action Plan, presented by James Cameron of the National Water Commission
•	Leading hydrogeologist Ray Evans on whether Australian use of groundwater is sustainable
•	Groundwater issues in the Murray Darling Basin
•	Renowned author Robert Glennon on America’s groundwater crisis
•	Australia’s deep groundwater resources
•	The link between groundwater and geothermal energy
•	The impact of sea-level rise on coastal groundwater and communities
•	The impact of coal-seam gas and mining on groundwater
•	Latest approaches to controlling salinity
•	A new approach to the Great Artesian Basin
•	Water efficiences through storing Australia’s water underground.
