Children's Medical Research Institute (CMRI) was Australia's first
dedicated paediatric research facility and continues to be one of the
nation's most highly regarded independent medical research centres.
Located at Westmead, its research focuses on the areas of embryonic
development and birth defects, cancer, nerve cell signalling and gene


CMRI is seeking an experienced Science Communicator to profile the
Institute to lay and scientific audiences and support its fundraising
potential by providing expert scientific and general writing, editing,
media liaison and public speaking.


You have a strong science, biology, nursing, medical or medical
education background, combined with excellent and demonstrated
communications experience.  Naturally, you also have a passion for


You bring the following skills and attributes to this dynamic role:


*         Tertiary qualifications in science, biology, medicine or

*         A minimum of five years experience in professional writing,
ideally with a focus on science or medicine and/ or research

*         Demonstrated ability to provide, under limited direction as a
member of a small team, high quality, timely, accurate and professional
science writing and editing

*         Experience producing content for a range of audiences
including scientists and the community

*         Experience in media liaison targeting scientific and/or health

*         Experience in developing and executing PR strategies and
writing press releases

*         Experience in public speaking to lay audiences and the ability
to successfully communicate scientific concepts

*         Ability to maintain and update a website

*         Ability to work to deadlines and high attention to detail

*         Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
